A poem by William Martin.

Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.

Sponge cake with whipped cream frosting for my son's birthday.

Birthday Cake recipe:

Ingredients
eggs - 5 (separate yolk from whites)
sugar - 1/2 cup
vanilla extract - 1 tsp
flour - 1 cup (not full, a tiny bit less than a cup)
baking powder - 1 tsp

Method
With a hand mixer whip the egg whites on low until frothy. Slowly add the sugar in small increments on medium. When medium peaks form, add the egg yolks slowly and the vanilla extract. Put the hand mixer away and grab a spatula. Mix baking powder with the flour and sift the combination into the batter. Gently mix in the flour mixture into the batter. Careful not to over mix and deflate the batter. Line an 8 inch pan with parchment paper and pour the batter in. Smooth out the surface with the spatula and bake at 340 F (170 C) for 30 - 35 minutes. Remove from the oven and flip over to rest for 15 minutes. Remove the cake from the mold and cut evenly in the middle. Let rest for an hour, lightly brush layers with simple syrup, and fill with berries and whipped cream frosting. Let it sit in the fridge so the frosting sets and the flavors come together.

Thank you for visiting. Have a beautiful day !
