This video shows the installation of a particulate filter (unfortunately the camera was not there when removing it) on the Audi A4 8K model year 2014 with a 2.0 TDI CGLC engine, which has a clogged diesel particulate filter (DPF). The DPF is an exhaust aftertreatment system that filters out the soot particles from the exhaust gas and burns them regularly to clean itself. If the DPF does not regenerate properly, it can clog up and affect the engine performance, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

The radiator fans keep running after every drive to cool down the DPF, which gets too hot. Also, every 100 km a regeneration prompt appears on the display, asking the driver to make a longer drive at higher speed to regenerate the DPF. The differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the DPF was well over 300 hPa (mbar), indicating a severe clogging. The high fuel consumption of over 8 liters per 100 km is another sign of a problem with the DPF.

Normally, two types of regenerations are operated: passive regeneration, which occurs during normal driving, and active regeneration, which is initiated by the engine control unit when the DPF reaches a certain fill level. It is advisable not to interrupt the active regeneration by turning off the vehicle or reducing the speed.
