A friend of mine had asked me to sing for her a couple of baby songs since she is at the time of making this video expecting a child. I decided to share two baby songs... The first song is called, "Shí̜í̜ Naashaa," which is actually a variant of the words, "Shí naashá," which means, "I am walking," in Navajo.

The words basically say, "Shí̜í̜ Naashaa... 'ahaa lá... 'ahaa lágóó naashá," which doesn't translate to anything but it's thought it's intended to say, "Shí naashá... as'ahgóó... as'ahgóó naashá," which means, "I'm walking... healthy/safely... healthy/safely I'm walking."

The other song is merely a song with chanting... intended to rock a baby to sleep.

Both songs are popular and are sung all over the Navajo reservation. Variants of "Shí Naashá," have been sung by Indigie Femme, Sweethearts of Navajoland, Kee Chee Jake, Pauline M. Begay, Radmilla Cody, and others.

The only person I heard sing the second baby song, other than my grandma, is Delphine Tsinajinnie. Her version of the song is found on the CD, which she calls "Suen's Work Song."

I figured if she wanted to hear them... some of you may want to hear these as well... Enjoy! :-)
