While riding my motorcycle from Cochabamba to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, I was looking for somewhere interesting to stop half-way. That is when I came across the tiny, but fascinating, village of La Higuera. Getting to La Higuera feels like going back in time. Nestled in the Andes this is the village where Che Guevara was captured and killed. Today it is a stop on the "Ruta Del Che", (Che Guevara Trail) a historical route that traces Che's last months of life in Bolivia. This portion of the Ruta Che is an incredible dirt road that climbs up into the mountains before arriving at La Higuera.

These days La Higuera is home to just 25 people, but there is a festival every year where the population explodes for 3 days; unbeknownst to me I was lucky enough to arrive there during this festival. As the village is in the middle of nowhere it is hours from the next town and provides incredible riding through the Bolivian Andes, both coming and going. It was such an incredible experience that it felt like a dream. A motorcycle adventure dream. There is definitely an argument to be made for Bolivia as the Ultimate destination for motorcycle travel (other than the gasoline situation!).

My next video will have the story and background of Che's death and the village of La Higuera, as well as more stunning back-country riding in the Bolivian Andes.
