Teams in Financial Times Technology are empowered to choose the best technology for the task however this should be done with a long term view on ownership, supportability, security, quality and total cost of ownership – it is not just about the technology. “We build it, we manage it” is the principle all teams work towards and this means Platform teams have to build services that are easy to use and of top quality. Hence we always build quality and testing into our development process at source rather than a separate discipline placed at the end of the process.In this talk, we will go through some challenges we faced and the reasons for moving to a mindset of whole team quality in cloud infrastructure and platform teams and the move from testing to quality in teams. We will then see how we used the CAMS model to build a culture of whole team quality. And lastly, we will look at some of the things we are doing to sustain this culture and also make some suggestions of things you can do yourself to try and influence teams to move towards a culture of quality.
