This song has its origins in the undulating hills and glens of Ballyvourney, Co. Cork.  Imagine this song as a rural Irish matrimonial rap-off.  At a wedding, each singer composes a verse, on the spur of the moment, praising the virtues of their own locality above any other. 
I learned this song from a wonderful version sung by Eilís Ní Shúilleabháin – my sean-nós teacher in University College Cork.
Listen out for the accompaniment that hopefully evokes the undulating glens of the area.
