We make Baklava every year at Christmas. Here’s a glimpse into what that looks like. I highly encourage you to try it! Merry Christmas and may God bless you!

Baklava

Ingredients:
4 Cups California Walnuts - finely chopped
1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Pound Phyllo Dough
1.25 Cups Butter or Margarine - Melted
1.5 Cups Honey

Steps:
1. Grease a 9" X 13" baking dish, melt the butter and pre-heat oven to 300F.

2. Mix the chopped walnuts, sugar and cinnamon together in a large bowl and set aside.

3. Place one sheet of phyllo, approximately 9'X 13", into the greased baking dish, brush with melted butter. Repeat 5 more times for a total of 6 Layers. Cover the 6th layer with 3/4 cup of the walnut mixture.

4. Repeat step 3 until the walnut mixture is used up.

5. Layer the remaining phyllo sheets on top of the last walnut mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter as it is added.

6. Using a sharp knife, cut only 1/2 way through all the layers in a diamond pattern. (Cutting 1/2 way through distributes the honey better and keeps the honey from pooling in the bottom of the dish)

7. Bake for 1.25 hours or until the top is golden brown.

8. Heat the honey over medium low heat in a 1 quart saucepan until hot, not boiling. Spoon the hot honey evenly over the baklava.

10. Let cool at least 1 hour and then cover and leave at room temperature over night or until serving time.

11. Finish cutting through the layers and serve.
