The Baldwin Concert Vertical is a terrific piano and just sounds great.

Here you see a pair of Coles 4038 ribbon microphones on the stereo bar for a wide, phase coherent stereo image. Baffles were put in place to control the sound for a tighter result.

A Cloud Lifter was used to protect the ribbons from accidental phantom power and also to provide more clean gain as ribbons can be less sensitive than other types of microphones.

The AMS Neve 1073 preamps were used. The polarity was reversed because Coles 4038 mics are positive on the rear, not the front. Also EQ was engaged with a touch of 12K for brightness.
