Leaving Beale Wildlife Park behind we once again turn down river, this time heading for Reading. At Whitchurch Lock we discover first hand what hand winding involves. Someone has obviously ignored the sign telling users not to hold the gate button too long as the power will cut out. H gets a real workout winding the sluices and top gate by hand. Thankfully the lock keeper turns up just as we pull in to the lock and he restores power. Mapledurham is our second and last lock of the day before we reach Reading. Oh and watch out for the unusually placed post box!
