Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 (the so-called "Pathétique") was written in 1798. It was one of Beethoven's most successful and popular early works. The heavenly middle movement Adagio is one of his most beautiful early creations in the cantabile style, which were to have such a profound influence on later Romantic composers.
