In our fifth episode of Two Joints Jody and I work with the energetics of resistance. We explore the shifting energies from passive resistance (freeze) to active resistance (flight, fight, fawn...). Shadow work is easier when we are at the top of the Polyvagal Hierarchy Ladder, difficult (but doable) in the middle, and nearly impossible at the bottom. Freeze states call for a most pure holding of space from a co-regulative perspective. When someone is stuck. knowing when to simply be of witness, and knowing when to encourage "doing the work" is a fine line between love and not-love. This is even more tricky in a partnership. I am grateful for my husband's vulnerability in his willingness to share this example of how we apply HETA to our daily lives.
