7 Times Players Mocked Opponents By Stealing Their Celebrations

Stealing a celebration is a common occurrence in modern football and happens because of multiple reasons. It may be a sign of respect to a player that is idolized and it can also be done as a sign of disrespect to others.
This video falls in the latter of these categories, when a player uses a celebration to mock and disrespect another on the opposite side of the ball. What better way to mock an opponent than to celebrate a goal against his team using his own celebration? Here are a few players who did just that.

The most recent time was when Neal Maupay copied James Maddison’s dart celebration to mock him in their game against Tottenham. After giving Brentford an early lead in the game, Maupay stole the Englishman's celebration in front of his home fans. This was something he would come to regret as a quick eight minute flurry from Tottenham would complete their comeback. The drama didn't stop there as after the game Maddison hurled an insult towards Maupay saying that since he hadn't scored many goals in the last few years, the only way he could have a signature celebration was to copy his. Ouch!
