I visited Lvl Up Expo 2024 in Las Vegas to see how American anime / gaming cons differ from conventions in Europe - and Sweden in particular.

In this video I explore the huge Lvl Up Expo in the Las Vegas Convention Center, an annual convention focusing on anime, gaming and a lot more. More than a 100 000 geeks visited the expo in 2023, so I was prepared for a massive con that would be unlike anything I've ever seen in Europe....but it turned out that geeks might have more in common than I suspected, despite the ocean that separates us.
I got the opportunity to interview a few people, and I explore everything that Lvl Up Expo has to offer - from special guests to arcade games, from cosplay to VR and robotic exhibitions - and a lot more. The convention had anime, esports, comics, indie games, cosplay competitions, pro wrestling, and tons of geek merchandise as well. All in all, everything that a geek might be interested in.
There were some differences though compared to, for example, London Anime & Gaming Con, Comic Con Stockholm, and NärCon in Sweden. And I started to ask myself: what exactly is different, and why? Is it about the size and the scale of the convention? Or about a maturity of geek culture? Or are there other cultural changes between our countries that is at play? You'll simply have to watch the video to find out!
