[전시서문]
잔가시가 성가시다

서연 “어때, 나 이상해?ㅎ”
민준 “ㅎㅎㅎ”
서연 “ㅎㅎ?? 별로란 거?”
민준 “ㅎㅎ아니”
(중략)

이후 한바탕 싸우고, 저녁도 안 먹고, 카페도 안 가고, 각자 집으로 찢어졌다고 한다.

서연 “어이가 없는 거예요. ‘ㅎㅎ’이라니. 매사가 그래요. 성의가 없어. 엉거주춤해. 뭐든 어중간해. 이도 저도 아니고. 도대체가 딱 부러지는 게 없어. 안 어울리면 아니라고 하든지.”
민준 “ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ아니, 어이없는 건 저죠. 어울린대도요. ‘아니’ 하면 건성이라고, ‘ㅋㅋ아니’ 하면 그냥 백퍼 짜증이거든요? 살펴보는 중인데. 추임새도 모름?”

오붓하게 핏대 세우는 남녀를 보며 ‘ㅎ’에 전율한다.
서연과 민준은 각자 나름의 사연으로 ㅎ을 쓰고, 또 서로 달리 받아들인다. 보는 ㅎ인가, 듣는 ㅎ인가에 따라 다르다. ㅎ과 ㅎㅎ, ㅎㅎㅎ의 어감이 다르다. 같은 개수여도 앞뒤 어디 붙느냐에 따라 다르다. 같은 위치여도 상황과 맥락과 상대의 캐릭터마다 다르다. …됐고, 읽는 방법부터 중구난방 제각각이다.

5% 불순한 ㅎ.
노심초사 겸연쩍고 조심스럽다. 장난스럽다. 안도의 한숨이다. 어딘가 가식적이라 거리감이 있다. 긴가민가 미심쩍어 종잡기 힘들다. 알쏭달쏭 미묘하고 음흉 찝찝 꺼림칙하다. 어이없고 허탈 황당해 헛웃음 끝에 달관한다.

그런데 살다 보면 ‘ㅎ 같은’ 경우가 참 많다. 방정맞게 따라 웃는 눈매와 근엄한 입꼬리, 분명 빤한데 괜히 주저하는 뒤숭숭한 여운들, 그래서 알아서들 가늠하기 바쁜 것들 말이다. 전시장 안팎, 사소하며 의미심장한 ㅎ 틈새에서 누군가의 탄식이 솟는다. “ㅎㅎ 나 원 참…”

Little Prickles Are Annoying

Seoyeon “How do I look? Looking bad? lol"
Minjun “lololol”
Seoyeon “lolol?? Are you saying I look bad?”
Minjun “lool No”

They fought, didn't eat dinner, didn't even go to a cafe, and just went back to each other’s places.

Seoyeon “This is ridiculous. What on earth is ‘lol’. He’s alwsays like that. Halfhearted. Halfway, Fence sitter all the time. Neither this nor that. Never going to make up his mind. If it doesn’t look good, say no."

Minjun “Loooool, ridiculous? That’s what I want to say. It looked good, I said. If I said no, she would think it was not heartfelt. If I said ‘lolol no’, she would be so annoyed for sure. I was thinking what to say. Doesn’t even know what filler is?”

I shudder at ‘lol’ when I see the man and woman raged with such fury.

Seoyeon and Minjun use lol in their own context and accept the meaning differently. It’s different whether you see lol or hear lol. lol, lolol, and lololol have different nuances. Even if it is the same number, it is different depending on the front or the back where it is attached. Even in the same place, it’s different depending on the situation, context, and the person’s character. … Enough, I mean, it’s kind of a mess and chaos even with how to read.

5% of Impure lol.
It’s Nervous, embarrassed and careful. It's playful. It's a sigh of relief. There is a sense of distance because it is somewhat double-faced. It is ambiguous, suspicious, and meandering. It's puzzling, subtle, wicked, unpleasant, uneasy. It's absurd, vain, ridiculous and attain the philosophical view at the end of simpering.

‘lol’ is everywhere in life. There are some thoughtless laughing following others with smiling eyes and the solemn corners of lips, hesitating and confusing for no reason, and things to be judged on their own. Inside and outside the exhibition space, people sigh at the trivial and meaningful lol gap. “lolol my goodness… ”
