3rd ALARM: Allentown Firefighters battle house fire on Tilghman Street Thursday morning

Lehigh County 9-1-1 center transmitted box 2611 for 1123 Tilghman Street between 11th and 12th Streets for a house fire, assigning Engines 9, 4, 6, 10, Truck 1 and Battalion 43.

Battalion 43 arrived and reported heavy smoke showing from the rear. Crews found heavy fire engulfing the rear of the 3-story M/O/R. Engine 9 took the front of the fire building along with Truck 1 and Engine 10. Initially there was a report of people trapped. However, Police officers removed the occupants of 1125 Tilghman Street from their basement.

A second alarm was transmitted as the fire rapidly spread through the 2nd and 3rd floors of the fire building. Engines 14, 13 and Air 1 responded.

A third alarm was struck and 2 volunteer companies from South Whitehall township were called as the fire extended into the cockloft and the #2 exposure (1125 Tilghman St). South Whitehall Engine 11 and Rescue 11 responded. Allentown Engine 11 responded after clearing an accident involving a Police Cruiser at 8th and Union Streets. Car 310 rolled numerous times after being struck at the intersection. The police officer had minor injuries.
