1910년 알프레드 베게너는 원래 지구의 대륙은 단 하나였고, 시간이 지남에 따라서 각각의 대륙들은 찢어지고 흩어져서 지금의 모습을 갖추게 됐다고 주장했다.
하지만 알프레드 베게너는 기상학자였기 때문에 지질학자들로부터 수많은 비판을 받게 된다.
그런데 시간이 오래 지나 많은 과학자들이 대륙이 이동할 수 있으며
아주 오래 전 지구의 대륙은 사실 하나였다는 사실을 밝혀낸다
