Napoleon had been exiled on the Island of St Helena for 5 years, o months, and 20 days before he died. On May 3rd he was given an anointing of the sick, or extreme unction by one of his chaplains and at 5:50
pm on May 5th 1821 at the age of 51
Napoleon breathed his last breath. He was buried underneath some willow trees near a spring at palace called Geranium Valley on St Helena. And there it stayed for 19 years. It wasn't until 1840 that Napoleon's body was brought back to France. On December 15th 1840 Napoleon's body was put on a carriage that was pulled by 16 black horses through the streets of Paris in a grand procession.
The funeral cortège was led by the Prince of France with hundreds soldiers in front of and behind the carriage, Napoleon's family, people in his household, veterans from the Napoleonic wars, clergy, and many more joined in the procession. The carriage passed the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Elysées and across the Pont de la Concorde until it reached Invalides for the funeral service. Napoleon's body laid in St Jerome's chapel at Invalides for 21 years until it was moved in all the many caskets to where it is now in its grand red quartzite sarcophagus on April 21 1861 in a private ceremony that was attended Napoleon Ill, family, government ministers and senior officials.

She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master’s degree from UCLA and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love of history, castles, and photography together.
