Follows the life of an Igbo girl named Malobi from birth through marriage. She goes from being a girl at home in her small village to attend a Christian school and eventually marrying one of her classmates. It explains the basic issues of resurgent nationalist Africa: tradition vs. colonialism. Recounts the events transpiring in Africa during the last quarter of a century, and portrays incidents showing the agitation which led to the independence of Nigeria.
