The Class DE10 is diesel-hydraulic locomotive for the Middle-distance, short-distance freight trains and shunting by Japan Freight Railway. They were built between 1966 and 1978, and used by JNR(Japanese national railways). DE10 drives five wheels with one engine. A torque converter has a high-speed step (for pulling train mode ~85km/h) and a low-speed step (for Switcher mode ~45km/h). I observed this locomotive at 2014 open engine depot of Higashi-Niigata.
