Nelson Faria

Born in March 23rd 1963, Nelson Faria appears in over a 200 CDs of Brazilian and international artists. He has written 8 music books (2 of them published also in the USA, Japan and Italy) and recorded 12 CDs, 1 DVD and 1 instructional video.

In 2001 he was awarded the Virtuoso scholarship of the Ministry of culture, to study arrangement and orchestration with Manny Albam, Michael Abene and Jim McNeely at the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop.

Nelson Faria has worked, on stage or in studios with artists like João Bosco, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Till Bronner, Milton Nascimento, Leila Pinheiro, Paulo Moura, Ivan Lins, among others, in presentations throughout Brazil and in more than 35 countries.

He has performed at the most important international festivals of Jazz and taught numerous courses all over Brazil and in renowned Universities of the USA and Europe. Since 2010 he is a professor at the Örebro University (Sweden), where he also is the coordinator for the Brazilian Popular Music Course.

He has collaborations as arranger for “Orquestra Jazz Sinfonica (SP)”, KMH Jazz Orchestra (Sweden), CODARTS Jazz Orchestra (NL), Orquestra Bons Fluidos, UMO Jazz Orchestra (Finland), Hr-Bigband (Germany), Frost Jazz Orchestra (USA), Dalasinfoniet (Sweden), Kicks & Sticks Jazz Orchestra (Alemanha) and others.
