സസ്യങ്ങളുടെയും ഫോസ്സിലുകളും നിലവിലുള്ളതും ചരിത്രപരവുമായ
മാതൃകകളുടെയും സമഗ്രമായ ശേഖരങ്ങളുള്ള ഒരു ശാസ്ത്ര സ്ഥാപനമാണ്
തിരുവനന്തപുരം നാച്ചുറൽ ഹിസ്റ്ററി മ്യൂസിയം.

1830-1847 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ഭരിച്ചിരുന്ന ശ്രീ സ്വാതി തിരുനാൾ
മഹാരാജാവാണ് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു മ്യൂസിയം സ്ഥാപിച്ചതിന്
പിന്നിലെ ക്രാന്ത ദർശി. എന്നിരുന്നാലും ഉത്രാടം തിരുനാൾ മഹാരാജാവും ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് റസിഡന്റ് വില്യം കള്ളനും ചേര്ന്നാണ് ഔപചാരികമായി ഇത് തുടങ്ങിയത്.

മ്യൂസിയത്തിന്റെ ശതാബ്ദി ആഘോഷത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി 1958 ജനുവരി 22-
ന് ഗവർണർ ഡോ. ബി. രാമകൃഷ്ണ റാവു പുതിയ നാച്ചുറൽ ഹിസ്റ്ററി
മ്യൂസിയം കെട്ടിടത്തിന് തറക്കല്ലിട്ടു. 1964 ലാണ് മ്യൂസിയം
പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്കായി തുറന്നത്.

Thiruvananthapuram Natural history Museum is a scientific institution with an exhaustive collections of current and historical specimens of animals, plants, geology, palaeontology, and more. The museum possesses an excellent galleries to share the amazing wonders of the natural world
with the public. Swathi Thirunal who ruled Travancore during 1830-1847 is said to be the visionary behind establishment of the Natural History Museum in Thiruvananthapuram. It was however left to his brother Uthram Thirunal Marthanda Varma and British Resident William Cullen to formally establish the institution. On the completion of the century by the Institution, the Government decided to duly celebrate the Museum and Zoo Centenary. As part of the centenary celebration the Governor Dr. B. Ramakrishna
Rao laid the foundation for the new Natural History Museum Building on 22 nd  January 1958. The Natural History collections continued to be housed along with the Art collection in old museum building. The museum was opened to public on 1964.
