On 26 November 2023, the new Barangaroo Metro Station opened its doors to the public for a community open day. And this was the second Sydney Metro City & Southwest extension station to invite the local community (and rail fans) to take a look inside.

The vast majority of Barangaroo Station is underground, with just the escalators, lifts and a few service pods visible from the surface.

But once inside, you're greeted with sandstone walls, exposed super T-Beams (that support Hickson Road), and fantastic artwork by Khaled Sabsabi.

Barangaroo Metro Station was designed by Foster & Partners, with local firm Architectus being the delivery architects. It's an incredible design with lots of space and a light and airy feel.

This video features amazing interviews with Hugh Lawson and Claire Moore, where they reveal inside information about how the station (and tunnels) were constructed. And they discuss the future southern entrance that will be delivered as part of the Barangaroo Central Development.

We also talk about the Barangaroo Boat that was found during the excavation phase, and how this is being restored.

I finish off by covering the Barangaroo Station precinct and Hickson Road changes, which include new bus stops, bicycle lanes and a pedestrian plaza surrounded by parkland.

Accuracy
I do my best to make the commentary in these videos as accurate as possible by checking facts on the internet and other sources. However, sometimes the information isn't available, so I'll use my railway knowledge and insight to explain something to the best of my ability. If accuracy is important, do check the comments, as other viewers will often pick up on things I've missed or any mistakes made. And for older videos, things may change over time, causing some of the information to become out of date.
