Fly fishing for King Salmon!

Today we are fishing the Oregon Coast for Chinook salmon with fly rods. What a blast! We caught around 15 Salmon, ranging from 5lbs to 30lbs. The flies used were leeches, clouser minnows, comets, zonkers, shrimp patterns, and a few other patterns. The bite was on in the morning, slowed down during the middle of the day, and heated up as the sun set. We fished a single river in this video but multiple in the whole trip. The Northern California coast and Southern Oregon Coast are home to many good salmon rivers, harboring chinook, coho, steelhead, and coastal cutthroat trout. To name a few, there is the Smith River, Klamath River, Chetco River, Rogue River, Pistol River, Elk River, Sixes River, Coquille River, Coos River, Millicoma River, Umpqua River, Suislaw River and many more in between.

A few notes:

My dad caught and bonked a chinook before we got to the spot, that’s why there is a fish already on the bank :)

The only wild fish we kept was the largest, about 30lbs. It was my buddy’s first salmon on the fly so he decided to keep it, otherwise we’d probably not be keeping such an amazing fish. The other fish we kept were all hatchery fish.
