Speakers bio:
Coding software during former roles in engineering and geology led Rick to a new career in technology. Spanning over three decades, Rick’s experience in the technical guidance and management of software and consulting teams has helped deliver effective solutions across many industry and public sectors, as well as across many geographies and cultures. From pre-internet mainframe and client server tech of the 80’s through to the advances in data science we see today around search, the semantic web, knowledge graphs and AI, this diverse experience has informed a practical and often lateral approach to problem analysis, software development and effective solution delivery.

Over the years Rick has been privileged to work with, and learn from some fantastic technology professionals and subject matter experts from around the world. Throughout, he has always retained his original view that the technology itself is just another tool; a means to an end for more important operational endeavours. Along with a healthy degree of scepticism towards software marketing claims, this real-world experience has provided Rick with a simplified barometer to differentiate useful technology developments from overhyped fads.
