The Golden State Killer, also known as Joseph James DeAngelo, terrorized California from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. His reign of terror included burglaries, assaults, and murders, first as the Visalia Ransacker, then the East Area Rapist, and finally the Original Night Stalker. DeAngelo's meticulous stalking and violent attacks left a trail of fear and devastation. After decades of eluding capture, advancements in DNA technology and forensic genealogy led to his arrest in 2018. DeAngelo's eventual confession and life imprisonment provided long-awaited justice and closure for his numerous victims and their families.
