Example shows how to apply Newton's second Law to analyze a double spring-mass damper mechanical system and then apply Laplace Transform to convert differential equations from time domain to s domain where we can easily describe displacements of masses as rational s domain functions. In this example, the two masses M1 and M2 are held in place up to time t=0 and then released. The force of gravity then is felt by two masses starting at time t=0 onward in the form of a step function.
