Japan claims that they have a 0% homeless population, according to the Japan Times, in 2024, there are only 2820 homeless in the entire. So it’s not exactly 0%, it’s more like .003%. Nevertheless, there are still 1000s of homeless in Japan, and I’m sure a lot go undocumented. I’m in Osaka, which has more homeless than any other city in Japan, and I’m staying in a neighborhood where they call home. Unsurprisingly, this is also considered one of the most dangerous areas in Japan. So, I went there to see for myself how dangerous this neighborhood could be, you’ll be surprised what I found.

I also ride through one of the craziest red-light districts I’ve ever seen and eat a few tasty foods while in Osaka.

More to come from the Bike Touring Japan series.
