He’s one of the most overlooked backs of the past 30 years, a player who jumped from JuCo, then to D2, before finally landing with the Washington Huskies for the 1996 NCAA season, where in one year, he prove himself as one of the nation’s most talented running backs. His rare combination of size and speed made him intriguing, but his checkered past and short temper scared teams away. He was a first round talent, yet was drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft, but he unfortunately went to the Cincinnati Bengals. During his 7 years in Cincinnati, he broke the single game rookie rushing record, and the single game NFL rushing record, while becoming the Bengals all time leading rusher, but during that same time, he never experienced the playoffs or even had a winning season. And then as the Bengals were beginning to turn over a new leaf by bringing in Marvin Lewis, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson and Rudi Johnson, Dillon had grown frustrated with losing and a decreased role. So at 30 years old, he would join Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, where he would put together his best career season, as one of the main reasons the Patriots were able to repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2004. He would be a solid player for them to end his career, as he recorded 37 rushing touchdowns in three years, before his career was over after a decade. Dillon had his struggles off the field, but overall wasn’t as bad of a person or teammate as the media seemed to make him out to be, and one thing you couldn’t deny is that he was one of the most productive halfbacks to ever play the game, yet gets little recognition due to his best years being spent on some terrible Bengals teams, who rarely saw any Primetime action.
