Its easy to grow mushrooms on logs using plug spawn. The plugs are wooden dowels that have oyster mushroom (or whatever variety you ordered) spawn inoculated into them. Get some fresh oak or birch logs and off you go.

Growing mushrooms can take a few months or years, depending on the type of fungi you want to grow. I like growing oysters as they taste great and are easy to raise, and mature quickly.

Be sure to use freshly cut logs for this. Drill the holes in an offset pattern, pound in the plug spawn with a rubber mallet, and cover the dowels and ends of the log with beeswax or soy wax.
