Episode synopsis:

Morocco in the middle of summer… Not the best idea we’ve had so far, I admit.

We've been on the road for almost a year and for the first time we feel vulnerable to the elements. Even more so, with the few technical problems we've had with Falkor lately.

Our new objective is therefore clear! We want to find a little freshness in Morocco! We can't stand sweating anymore and we even find ourselves dreaming of having goosebumps.

It is therefore time for us to discover a new side of Morocco by heading towards the famous gorges and mountains of the High Atlas.

Suddenly, the mountain that stands in front of us takes us out of our imagination. We enter the Toudra gorges.

On the way back, we come back to see the Mabrouk family who instantly invite us to stay with them this evening.

The next day we set off again towards the west. Tired of this short night but boosted by this beautiful encounter.

We pass through a few towns before gradually arriving in smaller villages. The further we advance, the more the ground transforms and becomes red. The landscape transforms before our eyes, welcome to the Dades gorges.

The road continues and we see workers busy concreting the track that leads to Agoudal (or Imilchil). Within a few years, I think that many of the Moroccan slopes will be completely concreted.

Since this morning we have already driven 120 km of pure pleasure but we are starting to get tired. We then notice a sign “Asaka campsite inn” on the side of the road which catches our attention.

We feel great in this peaceful place. The feeling of being disconnected from time and the world. So, we decided to take our time and extend our stay in this magical place for a few days.

Mohamed suggests we go into the mountains to discover a magnificent canyon located southwest of the village.

Our quest for freshness has therefore been half fulfilled in the Dades Valley. We therefore decide to continue our journey towards the North in order to gain even more altitude and freshness!

After the Tizi n'Ouaro pass at 2900 meters the landscapes transform again. We have the impression of being on a plateau at altitude and the villages we pass are very different from those encountered further down in the Dades valley.

In the afternoon we arrive at Imilchil, a small town located at an altitude of 2,200 m in the heart of the eastern High Atlas. We meet Khala, the owner of the Izlane Hotel and we decide to spend 2 days in the area.

Khala will also motivate us to visit the lakes of Tislit and Isli, 5km north of the city.

And it is there… on the edge of Lake Tislit, sitting enjoying a melon that a strange sensation runs through our body. We look at our arms and see slight goosebumps… Could we be cold? Ok then, I think we can say: “mission accomplished”. We managed to escape the infernal heat of the desert to find a pleasant climate despite being in the middle of summer.

The diversity of Morocco is a gift and we can’t wait to share the rest of our trip with you.
