Welcome, or welcome back, to Wanderlust Walks! Thank you for being here.

Today we are exploring the beautiful chocolate-box village, Bladon. Situated in Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds village is most notable for being the burial place of Sir Winston Churchill. Although the first written evidence of Bladon village was recorded in 1086, there is archaeological evidence that suggests a much earlier occupation in the area. Located at Bladon Heath is an Iron Age settlement known as Round Castle, as well as a nearby Roman villa and accompanying farms in close proximity, dating between the 1st and 4th centuries. Prior to the second world war, Bladon was simply a small Cotswolds estate village. After, however, the village became a place for commuters between Oxford and London, creating a rapid growth of the population within the area. The present parish church, St. Martin's, was built in 1804 and was heavily modernised by the Victorians in 1891 -- the earlier building before this was demolished in the early 19th century. On such a lovely, sunny morning this village felt absolutely dreamy to walk around. We couldn't resist bringing you along with us!
