With the two previous time-lapses (the Predators arena and the Titans stadium) Electric Picture Company had used 16mm film and an intervalometer. One of the frustrating things about that system was that there was no way of knowing if something was blocking the lens, the film had run out, etc. For the Nashville Public Library time-lapse (1999-2001) we devised a system that used a video camera and a video capture card that could be monitored and adjusted remotely. We were even able to create a website that showed the most recent time-lapse frame captured so that we, and the construction crew, could see the current status of the project. Another advantage to this system was that if something special happened, like the tornado that was captured on the Titans stadium time-lapse, we could adjust the capture rate remotely to see more details of how an event happened.
