In the early 1960s, Grégoire Duval, a respectable provincial pharmacist, took the life of a young woman in a moment of madness. Since no one saw him commit his crime, he decided to remain silent while Khader Boualam, the young woman's last lover, was accused of the crime in his place. Ironically, Grégoire Duval was then appointed to the jury at Khader Boualam's trial, with the task of judging a crime he himself had committed. Upset by the fate of the Arab worker, an ideal culprit in the eyes of the city's good society, whose racism had been exacerbated by the end of the Algerian War, Grégoire then embarked on the path to redemption. Illustrating himself in court, he demonstrated the lack of rigor of the criminal investigation and the weakness of the prosecution case: the outcome of the trial became uncertain. But by seeking to exonerate Khader, Grégoire disrupted the social order. And often, order matters more than truth...
