“On August 13, Berlin was really divided,” comments the narrator in this West German documentary report, which shows scenes of the construction of the Berlin Wall. The streets are torn up, wire mesh fences are erected. Countless concrete pillars and barbed wire run through the middle of Berlin.
The S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains no longer stop at the stations on the sector borders, many stations are closed. Rare footage shows a ride on the U8 subway line along closed and darkened stations in East Berlin. The journey with the camera ends at Moritzplatz station.
