On June 1, 2017 the Old Reading Schoolhouse Condos caught fire in Reading, Massachusetts. The building was home to 41 units and more than 60 tenants. Everyone was safely evacuated. This building had previously served as the Reading High School (for students from Reading and North Reading) and, after the school's closure, the Reading Community Center.
Several fire departments responded to the Reading fire including Reading Fire Department, Stoneham Fire Department, Tewksbury Fire Department, Somerville Fire Department, Malden Fire Department, and Cambridge Fire Department.
More than one million gallons of water was used to fight the blaze.
