Angry, scared and vulnerable: entangled seals experience immense trauma during a rescue. The OCN rescue team tries to keep the rescue process short. The animals need to preserve their energy and start their healing process. In rare cases, to prevent additional stress, we let the animal go before the entanglement is removed as long as the loop is cut. We trust the plastic rubbish will soon disappear as the seal's health improves. It is not ideal, but it is better than losing an animal due to exhaustion and shock.
Seal rescues are barely ever cute. They expose the ugliness in our society. 🦭
