Honda left the niche market for hydrogen fuel cells when the Clarity Fuel Cell debuted in 2021. Instead of an aerodynamically designed, low-slung vehicle, Honda's latest hydrogen prototype is based on the CR-V 2025 crossover. There is hardly any difference between the gas-powered SUV and the fuel-cell variant; the fuel cell version has a larger snout and a unique front grille. An advantage of the Honda CR-V Fuel Cell over rivals like the Hyundai Nexo crossover and the Toyota Mirai sedan is its home-rechargeable 17.7 kWh battery pack, which increases the vehicle's total range. An estimated $60,000 will go toward the price of the 2025 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell. In 2025, the CR-V Fuel Cell, a hybrid electric vehicle (EV) developed by Honda and GM, will debut with a whole new powertrain and hydrogen fuel cell technology. Inside and exterior, the CR-V Fuel Cell will likely resemble the current gas-powered CR-V remarkably. The front wheels of a Honda fuel cell vehicle are propelled by a single engine that produces 174 horsepower. Underneath the hood is where you'll find the fuel cell system and drive unit, and you'll find two hydrogen tanks underneath and behind the back seat. A 17.7 kWh battery pack is available in addition to the hydrogen filling station in case you ever need more driving range than what the tanks can provide. Honda claims that their new system has twice the lifespan of their prior model, starts up significantly faster regardless of the weather, and is two-thirds cheaper to produce. With an estimated time of 8.6 seconds to 60 mph, the CR-V e:FCEV is notably less sporty than the CR-V Hybrid. The CR-V Fuel Cell has a hydrogen system that gives it an estimated 241-mile range, and its 17.7 kWh battery pack adds another 29 miles to that, according to the EPA.
