The Hobbit: Finorian Cut (Official trailer) | Fan-edit

This is the trailer for my fan-edit of The Hobbit Trilogy. Although the originals are still extremely fun to watch and easily qualify as above average movies, the creators overstretched the original story, written by J.R.R. Tolkien, filling it with made-up characters, overdone CGI and unnecessary subplots and relationships, sometimes driving the viewers attention away from the main narrative.

This bothered a lot of people and many fans already created their own fan-edits which I welcome you to watch at any time, some of them are quite good. However, I noticed that in most cases, the narrative of the movie seems to jump around (forced and unnatural transitions to save on time) and some things are left unexplained. I tried to avoid such problems with my editing, which involved both macroediting (cutting entire scenes) and microediting (cutting shots and parts of scenes to improve flow, storytelling, pace, tone etc.).

The Hobbit - Finorian cut retells the story of the original trilogy, while cutting off some made-up characters and story-lines, reducing the length of over CGI-ed scenes and removing the so-called fillers and weak dialogues. However, the most important is that it keeps the natural flow of the storytelling. The edit doesn't seem like it jumps around the scenery (too much) and most things seen on screen are explained.

The edit is a duology, like Peter Jackson original intended it to be. The films differ in tone quite a lot as the narrative switches from adventurous to serious. An unexpected journey is thus a fitting title for the first film, while I named the second one There and Back Again, using Bilbo's own title for his story. In this edit, one can follow Bilbo's development much easier and can thus relate to the character much more than in the original trilogy, as all distractions have been removed.
An additional change is recolouring of the film to make it look and feel more like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. (Note that films were more accurately regraded after the release of this trailer)

Most prominent scenes that were cut:
Introductory prologue about Erebor
Most of the Bilbo-Frodo interactions
Dinner at Bagend and planning the quest (overly comedic, chaotic moments cut)
Most of the story of the Battle of Moria
Radagast introduction
Trolls (shortened)
Warg-scouts (Radagast cut)
Rivendell (overly comedic, chaotic moments cut)
White council (all cut / Galadriel appears for a couple of shots)
Thunder-battle
Goblin King's song
Goblin town escape (siginificantly shortened)
Thorin's charge on Azog (music altered)
Most of scenes where Azog follows the dwarves
Bilbo scouting
Extended introduction to Beorn
Beorn and Gandalf's talk
Crossing the river in Mirkwood
Tauriel is completely cut (makes one background line)
Barrel escape (all the overstretched parts are cut)
Voyage to Lake-town and coming to Bard's home
Most of scenes with Mayor and Alfred in Lake-town
Departure of dwarves for the Lonely mountain (significantly cut)
Entire Legolas and Tauriel subplot
Gandalf coming to Dol Goldur and meeting with Thrain
Gandalf's confrontation with Sauron
Kili's leg healing (mostly cut)
Dwarves trying to confuse Smaug (I've kept the forges and attempt to drown Smaug in gold. Smaug is the highlight of those movies and it would be a shame to reduce his screen time by that much. Also, I haven't been diving into changing the VFX)
Gandalf's rescue from Dol Guldur / White Council confronting Sauron (Slightly cut. I've kept that in as its concept is really good and is actually lore even if it's not mentioned in the book)
Lake-town people arguing on the shores (slightly cut)
Bilbo revealing the Archenstone
Barricading the gates
People of Lake-town coming to Dale (siginficantly cut)
The gems of Lasgeloth
Entirety of Alfred's comic relief in the BOFA
Gandalf talking to Thranduil and Bard (siginficantly cut)
Bargaining before battle (Thorin's stalling cut)
Dain's lengthy introduction
The Battle of five armies (Cut from the length of over 60 minutes to total of 20 minutes)
All Legolas and Tauriel battle scenes
Thorin's mental redemtion (siginficantly cut)
Funeral scene (only 3 shots are left)

ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY DOWNLOAD THE EDIT UNLESS THEY HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY.

This is for the sake of the creators, of which work shouldn't be undermined, they did a fantastic job. Besides, the copyright owners are meant to receive the money spent on purchases regarding the movies, so please respect the note above.
