Unlike you, the characters in your stories should change and be interesting. Because your life is so pointless and stagnant, writing a proper character arc can be a tough challenge for new authors.

In this video, we'll look at four different kinds of character arcs: transformational arcs, positive change arcs, negative change arcs and static arcs. We'll see how straightforward heroes like Patrick Bateman and Travis Bickle follow a transformational character arc and how someone like Atticus Finch goes through a static arc.

By giving our characters flaws, like needing to have sex ten times a day, giving your character a relatable goal, like needing to leave Oklahoma, and having them come to a realization, like that it's easier to kill buffalo than whales, we can take our characters in our stories through arcs that make our fiction more compelling.
