Ajmer is not only the gateway into Pushkar but has lots to do in its own right. It is on the banks for a huge and historic man-made lake, and is known for its fort and museum, lakeside diwans, and the Jain' religions beautiful golden models.

Ajmer is a great city to stroll as it has loads of bazaar areas and beautiful havelis, especially in the streets immediately surrounding Khawaja Garib Nhawaz, the largest mosque in Rajasthan, and Dai Din Kha Jopra, its 11th century equivalent.

Ajmer is definitely off the tourist trail but its great food, lovely people and unique tourist attractions make it a great spot to visit for a couple of days.

Al, from New Zealand and Kel from Australia met through work in 2010 and have been together ever since. Always infected by the travel bug they finally decided to head off on an adventure and started with Vietnam and Laos before heading to Sri Lanka, India, then Cambodia and Indonesia. Their mission is to explore as many off the beaten track places as possible through a slow travel philosophy on a tight budget.
