There's nothing quite like a massive BOOF right at your feet from a big murray cod! I almost jumped out of my boots when this huge fish hit my surface lure like a freight train at about 6am on the morning of cod opening. Standing on a very steep bank I struggled to get control of it enough to get it out of the water, but after some awkward fumbling I managed to get a good look at it. The lack of flat ground made it impossible to get a measurement, but I estimate it to have been around 75cm. It was difficult to hold it out at arms length for the camera to get a decent view!
The rest of the session was fairly slow, I had a few hits and bumps that kept it interesting including 1 fish that tapped my HC Lures spinnerbait 6 times; but the cheeky bugger refused to hook up.
Needless to say with my 1st cod of the season being an absolute beast of a fish, I'm very excited to see what else this summer brings.
