This is not a paid for product endorsement but just my own personal reflections on using these tools.
Hi everyone,
Today's video is a review of brush pens by both Derwent and Pentel. These are based on the idea of the old "fountain" pens, but instead of containing ink in the barrel, these contain water, and instead of a nib, brush pens have a brush on the end. They are great for sketching "on location" as it means you don't have to carry a separate water supply with you to rinse and wash your brushes or activate your watercolour paints. The brushes themselves are not the best quality, but they are fit for purpose. I certainly wouldn't use these as my sole sets of brushes. The bristles are of nylon and come in a range of different sizes. I have been using the Pentel set for a few months now and have used them for this sketch book that I show you at the end and also for sketching outdoors. They easily pop into a handbag with a small paint set and sketch pad and so I always keep a set "on hand" for when I have a few spare moments to do a little sketch. I bought my Pentel set several years ago but they had just remained in one of my art supply drawers until earlier this year I saw a video on You Tube by an artist called Beky Cao. I was so inspired by her laid back sketches that I thought I would have a go. I'll leave a link to her channel below. The brushes are a little different from regular brushes to use and take a short while to get used to, but I think they are well worth trying out and they have become a permanent item in my sketching tools.
