We travel on the steam train hauled Battlefield Line from Shackerstone to Shenton and return. The scenic journey then continues from Shackerstone to the navigable end of the Ashby Canal at Snarestone Wharf. From here the restored section to bridge 62 is travelled on foot and the next day by boat. The infilled Ashby canal is walked to the site of Ilott Wharf where the canal turned left and the route of the infilled canal can be seen from the air (copyright Google LLC).
