An “Ecotone” is a transition area between two distinct ecosystems, for example; the boundary between a forest and a grassland. It contains species from both ecosystems and often supports unique species adapted to the transitional environment. “Edge Effect” refers to the increased biodiversity and ecological interactions that occur in ecotones due to the mixing of species from both adjacent ecosystems. This can result in greater species diversity, abundance and interaction at the boundary compared to the interior of each ecosystem.
