It was BECAUSE of their belief in a creator that they thought the world could be understood through logic and reason, not despite it. They believed that there was order and meaning behind the universe, and thus sought out to look for it. To many of them, uncovering the secrets of the universe through science was a form of worship, as it allowed for them to have a better understanding of God and appreciate his creation.
