Marcel Sabitzer has been one of Leipzig's most important players since he joined the club in 2014. But with his contract expiring in the summer and other clubs interested, could Tottenham make a move for the Austrian midfielder when the transfer window opens?

My video notes!

Who is Marcel Sabitzer?
- Spurs fans will be familiar - scored twice in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 in 2020
- 27-year-old midfielder born and raised in Austria.
- Joined RB Leipzig from Rapid Wien in 2014 (still in 2. Bundesliga). Aside from a one year loan spell at Salzburg, he's been there ever since
- Helped Leipzig win promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season with the squad in 2015-16, and he's been an integral part of the team's midfield ever since
- Helped guide Leipzig to a second place finish in their first ever Bundesliga season. A result of that campaign was a first ever UCL appearance in 2017/18
- One of the captains for the squad that became UCL semifinalists in 2019/20. Emerged as primary captain this season
- Averages a goal involvement every 192 minutes (8g, 6a)

How does Sabitzer play?
- versatile. can play defensive mid, central midfield, attacking mid, or on either wing
- can play in a multitude of different positions, this season has usually played in a double pivot or on the left of midfield when Angelino advances
- in possession: incredibly quick with the ball (1-2 touches max), usually knows where he's going with the ball before he receives it. part of the reason why he's so dangerous
- when the team is in the final third, he occupies the central space at the edge of the penalty area. loves to shoot from distance, late runs into the penalty area
- always scanning and moving into space
- always near the ball. Stays deep when the ball is in the defensive/middle thirds, advances up the pitch when the ball gets played into the attacking third.
- out of possession: understands space and timing exceptionally well
- while he doesn't go diving into tackles, he's exceptionally quick at latching onto loose balls
- intercepts the ball well (1.66 interceptions/90 - more than any regular Spurs player)
- creates chances (1.22 key passes/90 - would put him 3rd among Spurs regulars behind Son and Kane)
- progressive midfielder (6.88 prog passes/90 - most on Spurs *Winks - 5.60*)

How does he fit into Spurs?

4-2-3-1: Lloris; Reguilon, Alderweireld, Dier, Aurier; Sabitzer, Hojbjerg; Son, Ndombele, Lucas; Kane.
4-3-3: Lloris; Reguilon, Alderweireld, Dier, Aurier; Ndombele, Hojbjerg, Sabitzer; Son, Kane, Bale.
