Every year, in July, tens of thousands of people descend on the tiny eastern Virginia community to witness the wild pony swim, roundup and auction. On August 4, 1985 WUSA TV-9's "Capital Edition" documented the event in a report produced by Todd Mesirow and narrated by John Goldsmith. A footnote: starting in 2018, after the death of a pony during the "penning", the People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has been trying to stop the round-up. As of this writing (07/16/2022) the 97th version was still scheduled for July 27th.
