To give you a measure of Kevin Wynne’s career, when he started as a jockey, Melbourne held the Olympics, as he took his final rides over the jumps, Sydney was primed to host the games.

His 44 year career captured the biggest races in Australia headlined by a Von Doussa, two Warrnambool Grand Annuals, a Brierley and an Australian Steeplechase at Flemington.

Wynne added a second chapter, as a clerk of the course for Racing Victoria.

He quietly went about his business ensuring the safety of horses and riders until achieving global internet recognition by displaying his incredible skills through capturing a loose horse with a dashing exhibition of riding.

Wynne is in the last stanza of his career, with retirement looming in the next weeks. He’s given a life to racing, played a pivotal role in the sport for the best part of 70 years and should be acknowledged for all he’s achieved.

Whatever’s next one item is certain; horses won’t be far away.
