China's envoy to the UN Wednesday stressed the urgency of achieving a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East during UNSC’s high-level meeting attended by representatives from over 60 member states.

Fu Cong also stressed the importance of expanding humanitarian access to alleviate suffering in Gaza. He criticized the politicization of humanitarian issues and the use of hunger as a weapon.

The Director of the Office of the UN Secretary-General, Courtenay Rattray, echoed these concerns, noting that no area in Gaza is currently safe. He also expressed concerns over the ongoing violence in the West Bank, which threatens the viability of a two-state solution, and criticized Israel's attempts to claim sovereignty over illegal settlements.

Russian top diplomat Sergey Lavrov also said that Russia supports "the entry of Palestine" to the UN.
