The companion piece to my prior video, spanning further back than the title indicates - it goes all the way from Thomas Jefferson and his Democratic-Republicans formed in opposition to the Federalists to Joe Biden and the modern party, but the contrast is sharpest against Andrew Jackson's racist populism and the pro-BIPOC policies of modern Dems. Two factors through the years influence the party's change: the evolving role of Black Americans and how the party reacts to industrialization and big business, who have always been on the other side.
